A fresh global inspired living room

home sweet home, room tour, Styling

Hey friends, today I am so excited to share a little change we did in our living room. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve already heard we have been working on an Office/Playroom combo remodel that opens up from the living room. Since there were major changes happening with one of the living room walls, I thought it was the perfect time to create a new design that works well with both the new office design as well as with the rest of the home. So I went with a neutral global inspired space.

**Affiliate links are included in this post where I make a very small commission for each purchase (at no extra cost to you of course) which just helps our blog stay up. As always, all opinions are my own!**

On May 6th, two years ago, we got our keys to this home! So, as we celebrate 2 years being in this home, I thought it would be fitting to share briefly, some of the changes the living room has gone through.

Right when we moved in (disregard the #crappyiphonepics lol and notice the funky room dividers/banisters), can’t believe how much has changed not just with the house but with the kids in a short 2 years!

The view here is from inside the living room and moving our things in! It was such an exciting day for everyone! I was between 3-4 months pregnant (super sick the whole first trimester and into the second) and was just done with the whole keeping the last house show ready for people to come see it.  In reality, it only lasted a couple of weeks, but it felt like foreva-eva! But the Lord was faithful and didn’t give me more than I could bear. We still look back at that time and just thank Him for sustaining us through such a tough trial.

Jason starting to remove the little room dividers. We both knew this and flooring had to be first on the list to be removed.

The wall casings we added and blogged all about here.

Here is The living room styled a few different ways the past 2 years:

Spring 2017

Fall 2017

And today, our global inspired living room design! With just swapping of pillows, and a few added decor and accent pieces, it can totally be achieved!

For our global inspired living room, like I already mentioned, I really wanted it to still go with the flow with the rest of the house so we kept it neutral. We stuck with a black, white, wood and brass palette and I think that really helped keep the flow of the home.

Some global touches we added to our space:

We started with white walls that really help global accents shine and black accents that really help ground the design. Then added global prints and textiles, greenery, natural wood that warms the space and feels welcoming, baskets inspired from around the world, like belly baskets inspired from Indonesia water vessels and hand-woven mini baskets straight from Portugal. A Moroccan pouf would be expected in global decor, but changing it up with an ottoman that doesn’t lose its shape, more multifunctional, and is more firm. The cute tassels definitely give them a unique touch.

Since our last living room post, we also added recessed lighting, moved our couch from the family room, added accent chairs and opened up a wall to our new office/playroom combo which I will blogging soon!! Stay tuned!

Enjoy this global inspired design!

Loving this pillow mix! All the pillows in this design are from Tonic Living. They have a great selection and their fabrics feel sturdy and soft. These high quality covers are obvious right out of the package. Some have messaged me on my thoughts on the quality of these inserts. I can only speak on the faux down inserts because they are the only ones I own. I truly love the weight and fullness of their inserts so I would highly recommend. My oldest ones are about 2 years old and they are just as full and fluffy as when they first arrived!

My amazing sister always finds unique items at the thrift store! She didn’t need this lidded basket anymore so she brought it over and it found a home right away!!

These black bamboo lanterns are my newest find. I love that they are made for outdoors but look so cute indoors also!

Did you notice that cute lamp sitting in the middle of our living room? It’s a cordless lamp from Modern Lantern which has been so convenient for extra lighting when we’re in here. Even though we just added the recessed lights recently, I still find myself using this lamp at night because it just gives a pretty glow and is easy to reach when we’re sitting down already. This lamp is perfect for those spaces that aren’t up against a wall, are hard to disguise a plug, and where there’s no outlet in reach! If you’re in the market for a cordless lamp, check them out!

Our linen couch covers in Brera Lino Natural from Bemz has been so amazing! We’ve had them for about 7 months now and these covers have been so good to us. I have no complaints. They are beautiful and the fabric is so soft! I blogged about it first here. I love this cover because it’s the perfect natural color that is so versatile and looks great with any changes we make. They are super easy to keep clean and care for. After 7 months, we finally washed it for the first time (they don’t catch dirt easily so they stayed clean for a while) and did as directed and it was fine, good as new! If you’re looking to replace your slipcovered Ikea pieces I would check them out! They have a great selection of fabrics which you can get samples of before making a purchase! We have the Farlov sofa and really love it! Love it so much we actually added the sectional to our family room which I will share more on soon.

Our jute rug is probably one of my most asked about rug! This rug is by Jaiper and can be found here.

Loving the mix and textures of these pillows! I added the warm amber-cognac one to add a warm pop of color on the couch.

Our rattan cabinet might be my all time favorite Ikea piece. It’s so unique but may be discontinued now since it’s from the Stockholm 2017 line and I can’t seem to find it online. But lucky you, if you’ve been looking for something similar I love this similar rattan cabinet that might I say, is a little bit cuter!

How unique (and perfect in size for a table) are these hand-woven baskets. Janine, owner of Tonic Living, picks them up while on her trips in Portugal. Doesn’t get more global than that friends! And for under $16 a piece, not bad at all!

These amazing Tonic Living pillows really helped pull together this global design I was going for. Mix and matching prints really give that eclectic feel too!

Remember my record player that Jason bought me for my birthday? At first I was like “mmhmm, someone really bought it for themselves” lol! But I’m happy to report I’ve actually been using it more than I thought!

I love using bookshelves to house home decor pieces and especially baskets. Can you tell?! I’ve owned this bookshelf since our last house and it’s still one of my favorites!

I moved this round brass mirror in here just for fun one day and loved it! Yes, there actually still is the other mirror just like this in the entryway wall. At first I found it weird to have 2 of the same mirrors close to each other but since it’s been up, it hasn’t been weird at all.

Here’s a close up of the new cordless lamp. I love that though it’s highly functional, Modern Lantern didn’t skip the details on their lamps! The quality is great, the design is beautiful, and the brass finish is the perfect brass! Check out their website for more designs! They have a great selection!

Speaking of functionality, these ottomans from Tonic Living were the perfect addition to this room! They give a well-balanced feel of both casual and dressed up. The fabric is casual but it’s tailored look gives the space that touch of class which makes these perfect in most any space! They’re a great multifunctional piece; used to rest our feet, for extra seating and for those times you need to rest your coffee or a book, just make sure to add a tray first to keep things tidy and balanced! You can add tassels like I did and they have them in different colors, or just natural!

Here, you can see what I mean about making sure it still flows with the rest of the home, since it opens up into the entryway and dining room.

This tapestry draped over our couch really adds another global element! I just saw that ours is out of stock but found this one that is very similar. The very popular mudcloth print is distinct and just keeps things crisp and fresh!

Thank you for stopping by and checking out our global inspired living room refresh! What was your favorite addition to the space? Does global decor inspire you? I think even adding a little bit of global to your home can add a new layer of interest to any space! Well, it was such a fun design to work on and such a pleasure to be able to share it with you! I hope you had some fun here today also!
