A look at our new home office + Our new office shelf unit

home sweet home, room tour

If you’ve ever gone through any type of home renovations, you know things can get pretty messy and overwhelming real quick. Well this will be us again as we are going to start working on our kitchen this month and it’s really pushed me in high gear to make other spaces of the home feel less chaotic. It’s so important for me that our family still come home to a place where we can find rest and some peace.

With that said, I worked on the office recently and got to paint the walls, add curtains and organized our new shelf unit and desk! I wasn’t planning on sharing the office yet, but I know we all love seeing progress so here’s where we’re at so far!

We painted the walls in Polar Bear by Behr and painted the ceiling Ultra Pure White. I was a little nervous Polar Bear would be too cool but actually it was just right. I’d say a little baby step above a neutral white. As for as the paint on the ceiling, this is the white we use always for all of our ceilings. There are a lot more ceilings to paint in this house, but we’ll worry about that later.

These curtains are the Ritva curtains from Ikea and are the same curtains we used in our living spaces in our last home and the same curtain in our master bedroom. They have a great weight to them and dont look cheap but are a great price. This curtain rod is my go to for an affordable and chic rod which comes in a few finishes; this one is in brass.

Adding this shelving unit has been so awesome! I get some drawers to keep things the kids and I need with in reach tucked away and have shelves that allows me to also add some style in here while still keeping things nice and organized!

The desk is currently on crazy sale 40% off with code “FURNSALE”. I’ve owned this for a few years now and it is still good as new! Such a great piece!

Shelf styling tip: I’ve shared this before, but when styling your shelves, creating groupings help the shelf look purposed, put together and easy on the eyes.

Remember our office nook I shared here from our last house? Gosh, that wasn’t that long ago, was it?! I loved that nook so much and that space which was a part time homeschool room and hang out space for the kids. But also really love how this new home has allowed us to have a room devoted to being a home office.

These baskets and storage items really help the shelf look uniform and keeps our things organized. The shelf has some items I just got on clearance from the Hearth and Hand line and linked them down below.

What's next for the office..

Next up, I plan to paint the door and closet doors a bright white (most likely the same shade we will be painting the trim). We also have plans of adding a bamboo shade to the window to warm up the space a bit with some texture. Of course pulling up the carpet and adding new flooring in here will be great, along with layering a comfy rug to keep it comfy. Finally, I also plan to do something fun with the walls and a light fixture but haven’t committed to what that might be quite yet but I know it will be good;) Wow! Now that’s a list. But the good thing is we are in no rush!
