Back to school bedroom makeover: A big girl bedroom reveal

home sweet home, room tour

I have been away from here most of summer trying to soak up every minute of summer break. This homeschooling mama needed the break so bad. I’m pretty sure we all needed it! I still can’t believe it’s back to school next week for us. But while summer is still here, I thought it was time to finally finish up our big girl’s bedroom just in time for kindergarten. In our last house, she shared a room with her brother and the last time she had a bedroom of her own, it was her nursery so it was more babyish and less for a big girl.

This girl loves color, but since having pink on the walls wasn’t a part of the plan, we embraced color in other ways with accents. And her toys bursting from every basket will add the perfect amount of color anyway ;).I think though the changes weren’t too drastic, it made a big impact on the overall feel of the room. It’s fun and playful like our big girl! With back to school here, this was a perfect way to get her excited for the new school year.

This is how the room looked like in the beginning stages when we moved in.

Pop corn ceiling needed to be removed and this ceiling fan was asking for an update. But cute Rae looked so sweet in here. I think I took that picture about 3 months ago.. She’s 10 months now. Craziness!!

Here, we scraped the popcorn ceiling and painted it with a flat white ceiling paint by Behr:

Oh and because I get asked all the time, most of the walls were painted by the previous owners and they didn’t leave any cans so I’m not sure what the colors of the walls are but it is a soft white color and reminds of Benjamin Moore Simply White.

Then we applied the Milton and King wallpaper which was our first time using wallpaper ever and it was so easy to work with. We went with this realistic brick paper called Clubhouse Bricks. When we chose this, we were actually planning on putting it up at our last house but we ended up deciding we were going to put our house on the market, so I held on to the paper. So glad we did cause it’s perfect in here.

We referred to their website where they explained exactly how to apply it and what you’ll need here

Next we inserted a new closet organizer which we used for the kids in the last house. We purchased ours for $100 but I found it here for under $50 with free shipping!

Finally we switched out the old fan for a fun white basket light which is currently on sale for $55.98 here.

Here is the final reveal of our sweet girls big girl room!

I think her favorite wall would be this beautiful wall with the brick wallpaper. She’s had pretty much every thing we used on this gallery wall for a while now. It was just a matter of getting it up.

Every design starts somewhere, and for this room it all started with the red framed elegant elephant man. Aint he cute. He had me at pink vest. I found him at a consignment store in Napa near my mom’s house. My sister and I love this place! This piece has all the colors I knew Londyn would enjoy in her room.

She loved this bed right when she set her eyes on it when we were shopping at Ikea.

Of course the boys recently got a bunk bed and now she’s feeling bummed that theirs is taller than hers. Which btw, the bed can flip upside down and become a cool little loft/bunk bed. We both love this option because we get to switch it every so often when the mood strikes!

Her desk area is still a work in progress. We do have plans to give this wall a little personality but for now, she’s just happy she has a place to put some of her books, toys and an area to draw all in one corner. Both the desk and book shelf are from Ikea.

Though this room isn’t very large, we wanted to make sure she had room to play! She loves putting up the teepee and just hanging out. We got this teepee here.

Rae loves to crash her tea parties! Thankfully she doesn’t mind it quite yet.

This room is so perfect for our girl going into kindergarten in less than a week. My hearts deepest prayer for her this school year is that as she exercises her mind and gains understanding and knowledge, she would also gain wisdom that leads to salvation through faith in Jesus. Oh what a sweet joy that would be!

I rounded up as many sources as I can below:
Teepee
White basket light fixture
bed frame
White brick wallpaper
closet organizer
rattan coffee table (used as a bench)
pink velvet pillow:
white planter
picture frames above bed
colorful rug
chair (used as a bedside table)
desk
bookshelf
Metal chair
collapsible cream cube storage
yellow clock
white cloth “standard goods” basket
Puffin in Bloom Book Set
I scream You Scream wood sign

Well, that’s it! She loved her back to school bedroom makeover! I think someone is ready to go to kindergarten! Hope you enjoyed it also! Have a great school year guys!
