The modern + natural + multifunctional family room REVEAL

Bloggers Challenge, home sweet home, project diy, room tour

We are at the finish line of this family room update. My goal in here was to update this room into a little bit more of a modern, simple and natural space all while making sure it functions well for our family. I think we did that.

The first week I shared our plans for our tv wall as well as share how this space looked when we moved in and the temporary fix we did with wood planking.

The second week I shared all about our fireplace wall update giving it a clean sleek look with built-in shelves for storage and style.

In the third week I gave an overview of the progress and our installation of the fireplace doors and the herringbone tiling we did.

We entered the fourth week sharing on our Bemz couch covers and Tonic Living pillows we are using in here and loving so so much!

At week 5 I shared all about our experience with Pure and Original lime paint on the fireplace/ tv wall.

Last week in week 6 I shared all about our coffee bar and how the addition of 2 shelves really made better use of the space as well as gave it more style!

This week, we did fun stuff, which is of course styled, and though we still have a few things left to do in here, and some items yet to come, I am so excited to share how far we came with this room! So let’s just get right to it!

The rest is history!

The tv wall was painted in week 5 and I have been loving this subtle yet statement wall with the paint. It makes it look very earthy and light cement like and the texture of the paint really adds interest to this wall. Pure and Original paint, you guys really out did yourself with this high quality paint. You can see more about this paint on my post here.

I love how depending on what time of day it is, this paint really changes and shows the different textures.

We worked with Bemz to give our couch covers a more designer feel and gave them personality. Their selection really allowed me the ability to express myself.. Our couch has a neutral pure linen cover called Brera Lino in Natural on it which expresses my love for neutrals and the chambray looking armchairs expresses a touch of fun but still keeping to the basics.. because chambray is a staple in my closet, I felt comfortable adding this into our neutral home. You can find this cover here.

Don’t these chairs just give this room a lot more personality?!

Tonic Living was so kind to send us these beautiful pillows that really pulled this room together. The beautiful mix of neutrals, blues and fun and fresh patterns really went with the modern + simple + natural feel we were hoping to accomplish in here! I shared more specifically on these pillows here.

We are still waiting for our new lights to come because they were on back order but I loved them so much I was totally willing to wait for them.  These Hudson Valley wall sconces are a part of their new line called Mitzi. This line is more modern and playful. This wall sconce can be found here. I love that they are simple, modern and gives the room a touch of masculine. This is the boys favorite room in the home so it makes sense to add that in the mix!

These will be above the 2 built-in shelves on tv wall and at the coffee bar. But we did get our Hudson Valley lamp that I am just loving and you can see it here. ! It’s shape has a very traditional feel and gives this room a touch of elegance I think. It’s the perfect lamp and I think my favorite thing about it is it’s a dimmer!

Because we are in this room a lot, it made sense that we had the coffee bar in here. I’m loving the changes we made to the coffee bar. I’m loving how the shelves really makes this wall a lot more interesting but you know what my absolute favorite thing is right now about this bar? It’s that mini espresso machine that we got just a couple of weeks ago. I have been all about it and it makes the best cup of espresso! I got mine here.

This sputnik pendant in here was from Lamps.com They sent us this beautiful light last year and I can’t find it on their site anymore. But it’s called the Kichler lighting Armstrong 8- light pendant in natural brass if any of you are interested.

This coffee table is perfect for the space. It has simple and clean lines, it’s strong & durable, and big enough to play board games with the kids. This coffee table can fit in a lot of different styled homes and can be found here! It’s so versatile!

I gotta share about this amazing candle. It’s large, will last all winter and more, and smells so so good! You can get yours here. I am so in love with the smell, it’s a soy candle and really says Christmas to me with sweet notes in it.

I didn’t mention this in my design, but a desk is something that comes and goes in here. We are at the computer a lot and with homeschooled kids, it’s used even more. With Baby Rae, and converting our office into a nursery, we really need to have a workspace out here and I think this desk fits in this corner. It’s currently 40% off here with code furnsale.

Did you notice the striped blanket hanging over our couch. I love the texture it adds here but the real truth is, when the kids walk past the couch, they always run their hands across the top of the couch and I like knowing there’s a barrier there. Is that weird? I don’t think so.. 😉

So other than the wall sconces, there are a few things that didn’t make it for this finale but is on its way so I’ll definitely share when they come. The first is this rug from Rugs USA. I wanted a simple geometric rug that was also cozy and comfy to lay on and I saw great reviews on this one! Rugs USA has been a big help and they were very accommodating when I was on a hunt for the perfect rug. I love their rug selection!

The other items we are looking forward to putting up in here is art from my friend CC over at CC & Mike. They have the coolest prints in their shop of CC’s captures. You gotta check it out here! CC was kind enough to send us these 2 prints for the space. I think they both complement this room as well as goes well with the color scheme and mood in here!

Framebridge  was also kind enough to custom frame her work for us! This is my first time using their frames and I hear great things about their company, so I am looking forward to seeing them in person.

Thank you so so much for stopping by and checking out the pretty much finished family room! I say pretty much because we still have a sliding door in here to replace. But that will have to wait. So what do you think of our update? I hope you enjoyed following along. It was a lot of work initially but after the tv wall was done, it got a lot better from there!

I have to give a big shout out to my sponsors who helped provide us with awesome items that really helped us finish off this room! Each of you have been a joy to work with, all the items we’ve received have been fabulous and I hope to work with you all again on future projects:

such an inviting and cozy hangout spot for the family! love the white and sand palette and inspired by your new layout to have the sofa away from the wall to make room for at the corner + a nook for a family bar!! how brilliant is that! fab built-ins for the featured wall. congrats on a fantastic makeover!
