A real home tour of our Christmas home: full entryway/ living room tour and a full reveal of our finished kitchen renovation

blog hop, Home Tour, room tour

There are so many amazing home tours I’ve toured this Christmas and I’m so excited to join some friends today to share a relaxed afternoon gathering with a few friends this Christmas! Although I’d love to have you all come and hang, I know that’s either impossible for some of you, living many miles away, nor would I have enough space in our home to house us all. So instead I wanted to welcome you in right here. Make sure to check out the other fabulous home tours at the end of this tour!

Merry Christmas from our family to yours!

Did you notice the new addition to our family! Her name is Ava Bear, she’s a golden doodle, she’s 8 weeks old, and she just became a part of our family 2 days ago! We all love her already!

Our tiny entryway can fit a good 2 people, maybe 3 if you don’t mind being snuggled up on each other. But the wall hooks and shoe closet keeps it manageable while the shelfie keeps it cute. HA!

Right when you open the door, this is pretty much what you see. We replaced our console table that sat below the window for a Christmas tree.

I love that the family tree is the first thing that greets guests! It’s just warm and inviting! This tree hold some of the kids favorite ornaments they’ve collected through the years. Complete with multiple Star Wars characters, Shopkins, donuts, little cute stuffed characters that baby girl loves, etc. Since they were tiny, they’ve each picked 1 ornament every year and it’s so fun to see all the things they each were into! The rest that couldn’t fit here, made it to another tree in the family room which is our little tv room.

Right when you step down, to the right, under the stairs is our tv cabinet which is a multipurpose spot where you can drop your keys. Especially without the entry console table, it’s’ nice that we can use this cabinet for that.

So when you step down, you step right into our living room. This space was once a living/ dining room combo, but we decided to move our dining room to be closer to the kitchen and make this space a little more roomy. So far, it’s worked out great!

With the changes, we have more room to have more people lounge together, enjoy some board games or watch a movie together. We do have a smaller family room, more intimate, but this is perfect for bigger gatherings.

Speaking of gaming, this cabinet holds a few of the games we are currently playing as well as the kids currents reads. The rest of the games are in the closet right next to the front door.

Here’s a little space between the family room and going into the kitchen. We just added this bench here and it just works for extra seating and also where we put our bags down when we get home. Feel free to drop your purses here 😉

Here’s a little overview of the space. It’s probably the only room that can stay pretty tidy for long periods. Now to get the rest of the home on board!

Then we get to our kitchen, where today, we can have a casual lunch right here on the peninsula! I love these kinds of hangouts!

Our kitchen is finally done, here’s a first look at it! The plan was for it to be done this past summer but there were just a few bumps along the road but I’m so thankful we’re finally here ready for Christmas!

I’ll be using our Z line range to whip something far from fancy up. And if and when I accidentally burn anything (it’s only happened a few times haha), my Zline range hood insert is powerful and ready to clear the air right away!

Jason (husband, best friend, DIY extraordinaire (; ) built me that shiplapped hood cover and I think it totally compliments our long subway tile from Bedrosians Tile and Stone. This kitchen took up many nights for both Jason and I, from gutting the original kitchen, to planning a new layout, and finally executing this new design that fit our life and this little space. I am so proud of Jason and so thankful that he hears out my ideas and is patient with the crazy ones too! You can see more of the before pics of our home here.

Jason also on a whim made that wine and cutting board organizer with this little extra space that was just going to be covered up. So glad it worked out because every inch matters in here!

I’ve had our Elkay farmhouse sink, faucet, and pot filler for about 9 months now, and I’m still so glad I went with these for our kitchen. They’re functional and beautiful too! If you’re looking for quality and a classic style, I would definitely check these out!

All our kitchen lights are from Hudson Valley Lighting. The pendant light above the sink was a collaboration Becki Owens did with HVL, and I just love the classic shape and design. The wall scone above the floating shelves was also a designer collaboration with HVL and again I was loving that classic and timeless design. The pendants over the peninsula are by Mitzi lighting and while I think it also feels classic, it also has a coastal farmhouse feel to it which is exactly what I wanted for this kitchen! I really wanted lighting that feels classic and won’t feel dated over time, and I think they all fit the bill.

The last thing I added in here was the floating shelves from Ultra Shelf. I was super picky when it came to choosing these. I wanted them to be solid white oak, durable, have a heavy duty bracket system that would hold all my shelfie dreams 😛 Ok so I thought I was asking for too much, but Ultra shelf delivered and exceeded my expectations! They have a great selection of woods, sizes, thickness, depth, and wood stain finishes. It’s a one stop shop and I am just so glad I went with their shelves!

Who’s ready for a little meal and hangout together in here?! Then after, maybe head back to the couch for a little nap? Probably not, we’d be too busy having fun, but I told you this was a relaxed hangout out; can’t get any more relaxed than that!

This kitchen is gorgeous!! We are also considering the Axstad by IKEA. Like you, our cabinets will not go to full ceiling height. I love what you did on top of the cabinets! How did you do that trim?

If you want more counter and storage space, then adding a center island may be worth the cost. But an island can limit the number of people working in the kitchen, reduce traffic flow to one-way with no passing, and make for cramped quarters.

Install filler strips or panels to fill up the extra space. You can install shelving between the panels over the top of the fridge or install top cabinets.
