Some new masterbedroom updates + 5 things to consider when purchasing a bed frame

product love, room tour

We have been making a few changes to our bedroom in the last month and I’m so excited to share that all with you today! I also wanted to share 5 things  to consider when shopping for the right bed frame which you can scroll down to the bottom of the page any time to check that out. Before we get to that, here’s what the bedroom looked like before and after the changes:

Before the changes

.. and after

Can you tell what the big changes are? Yes, we got a new bed frame and installed a new chandelier. We’ve had these changes for a month now and every day I walk into the room and smile at the beautiful tufted bed and gorgeous chandelier!

I’ve had my eye on this bed frame by Inspire Q for a while now, so when they wanted to send us a piece of furniture to add to our home, I instantly thought of this bed frame. When it comes to a bed frame, it takes me a lot more time to choose than probably any other piece of furniture. It’s just one of those furniture pieces that stays with you for a long time and needs to be comfortable, sturdy and fit the feel of the bed room. We’ve been on the hunt for the perfect bed frame for a while now and really wanted to take our time at choosing one that was perfect for our bedroom. Our last bed frame was with us for almost 7 years and the main reason for a change was we really wanted a platform bed that’s lower and easier to get in and out of bed. I also personally wanted the headboard to have a straight edge on top instead of the curves of the last headboard. It also helped solidify my decisions, when I saw that it was a best seller and had great reviews.

I went with the beige linen color because it’s neutral, classic and will flow nicely through all seasons.

I also was so excited to get our chandelier from Serena and Lily up! It was a little tricky choosing the placement for it with our vaulted ceiling with the highest point not in the center, but we made it work. This chandelier might be my favorite light in the house. It’s made of coconut shells; how cool is that?!

Other items I recently added is our faux fiddle leaf fig tree that is perfect for this corner. If you’re not into keeping plants alive, this tree is a great addition.

This bench is a vintage find that I scored on Facebook marketplace for a fraction of what I usually see these benches listed for! It was such a great deal, Jason was willing to pick it up for me at 6am on a Saturday! He totally took one for the team!

This throw is the perfect accessory for this bench. It’s a lightweight throw, so it’s perfect for spring/ fall! I just looked it up and it’s currently on sale!

While I was at Anthro a couple weeks ago, I left with just one item. One! This cute little bud vase. And let me tell you, I was so excited for this little find.

I have that planter basket from Tonic Living in 2 sizes and love the two tone look with the added tassels. It gives it a little more personality! Also, I love the durability of this basket. They aren’t flimsy at all.

I moved that rattan bowl from my office, which if you follow my Insta stories, you know I lost my home office and is now our den/ tv room. Check out my stories to see the cool built in tv wall we’ve been working on!

I love mixing up our throw pillows but I have been loving the pair of large 24×24 pillows with the cute casual stripe and tassels and mixed it up with the XL striped lumbar and layering in a smaller one with mini tassels and  stripes going in a different direction.

So who’s shopping for a bed frame? If you’re in the market for a headboard/ bed frame, there’s a lot to consider! Based on my recent bed frame hunt, I’ve narrowed it down to this:

My top 5 things to think through when looking for the right bed frame for you!

1. The style

What is the look you’re going for in your bedroom? Is it traditional, modern, coastal, contemporary. You can be as specific or general as you want, but having an idea will help start you in the right direction. If you know what style you’re drawn to, you can type that into pinterest (i.e. “modern bedroom”) and see if there’s a bed that really catches your eye.

2. Bedframe design

What style are you looking for in a frame?

Tufted, platform, upholstered, canopy, sleigh, etc. The more specific you are, the easier it is to pick. If you like reading or watching tv in bed, you probably want a headboard that is softer to lean on like an upholstered one. If you have high ceilings and want a stand out piece, you might consider a four-poster bed.

3. The bed frame size and height

Let’s move on to function. Obviously you gotta get a bed size that fits your space. But what wasn’t so obvious for me until I bought our first bed frame was the height we preferred. I personally love being able to sit on my bed and still be able to have my feet touch the floor. But I never thought about it before, but now I know! There are other people who love the look and feel of having their bed high off the ground and there are others who really don’t care.

4. Under bed storage needs

Are you short on storage space in your bedroom? If so, under a bed is a great space to store stuff, but not all bed frames allow that so that will definitely help narrow your options. Our new bed is a platform style and doesn’t have space underneath for storage but that was fine for us because we have enough closet  space and a dresser to hold our things.

5. The reviews

Lastly, and such an important one for online shopping! What are the reviews on the bed frames you are looking at? Make sure to read those. If there are no reviews, I wouldn’t risk it unless there’s an easy return policy. Otherwise, be safe and choose one that has good reviews on structure and quality. It’s an investment so you definitely want to go with a bed that has good reviews.

Ok so I know I said 5, but if you are still torn between a couple, I highly suggest a mood board or cutting and pasting the bed into a picture of your bedroom and see if it works. Getting a visual of your ideas will help finalize your choices. Hope these help!! Let me know if there’s something important you think about when choosing a bed frame.

What a beautiful space! Very similar to my room, and helped me choose a chandelier! Will try to hunt it down in Canada. I wondered what size juju hat you have above your bed? I’m having trouble deciding between a 20” and a 30”, though I think 20” should be good over our kingsize. Thanks for the inspiration!
