Our updated family room / tv room

home sweet home, room tour

It’s been so nice and warm lately here in California, and the beautiful weather has kept us outside the last couple weeks. But with the temps being a little colder than usual the last few days, I was motivated to give our family room/tv room a little refresh. Then I realized I never actually shared the second update we did to this room.

Here’s where this room started when we closed on the house:

First we used this space as a home office and shared all the details here.

Then we turned it into our tv room and blogged about it here. Oh man do I miss this tv wall we DIYed not that long ago, and then had to remove it when we decided to open up the whole space. For reference, this tv wall is the same wall as the closet wall above.

Today, here’s the same room opened up. Again, for reference, the wall with the shelves is the same wall as the tv wall above. I would really love to recreate a similar tv wall we DIYed, but wood is so expensive right now so I think I can wait on that.

The main reason we decided to move the tv to the other wall, is so the tv can be seen behind the couch from the kitchen and breakfast nook. Here’s what’s behind the couch for reference taken in a few months back:

It’s been a great addition, having this room opened up to the other spaces, but still cozy enough for movie nights and mid day naps!

The window shades are called the Lea Desert woven shade from Willow Bloom Home. We added a black out lining to this one because, like I said, napping happens in here and it really helps!

Having these shelves in here have been great as I wait to build another tv wall, and has great storage when the girls bring their toys down. We just grab baskets and tuck them on the bottom row. You can find these shelves here.

They’re really fun to style and practical too!

We have been enjoying this frame tv and love the art from Deb Presutto Fine Art. I have a few in our home, and love her work!

Hope you enjoyed a tour of the update in here. The next real change will probably be that DIY built in tv wall down the road, but for now, #hometakestime 😉 and we really love this space and have no regrets in opening it up to the other spaces.
